Most features are milled because milling is faster. Wire EDM takes over where cutting tools cannot go: sharp internal corners, very narrow slots and hardened material.
Choose wire EDM for
- Sharp internal corners that an end mill would leave rounded
- Narrow slots, keyways and internal splines
- Ratchet and gear-like profiles
- Profiles in hardened steel after heat treatment
Choose CNC milling for
- Pockets, faces and 3D shapes
- Holes and threads
- Most features in aluminum and unhardened steel
Combining both
Many parts are milled or turned first and get one EDM feature afterwards. We offer wire EDM alongside CNC milling and turning, so the whole part stays in one shop.
Chi Xin Technology is a CNC machine shop in Nantun District, Taichung, Taiwan, founded in 2022. We run 5+ CNC machines — 4.5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes — and mainly machine aluminum alloys and alloy steel, with a metal tolerance of 0.02 mm. We also offer wire EDM and surface finishing including anodizing, and we export to customers in Europe and North America.
Frequently asked questions
Can wire EDM cut non-conductive materials?
No. Wire EDM only cuts electrically conductive materials such as steel, aluminum and titanium.
