Low volume CNC machining covers everything between a single prototype and a few thousand parts. No molds or dies are needed, so you can change the design between batches and pay only for machining.
When low volume CNC machining makes sense
- Prototypes and pre-production batches
- Products with small or uncertain demand
- Spare and replacement parts
- Parts that need tighter tolerances than casting or molding can give
- Designs that are still changing
How to keep unit cost down
- Order a sensible batch: setup cost is shared across every part in the batch.
- Use tight tolerances only where function needs them.
- Avoid deep narrow pockets and very small internal radii.
- Group features so they can be machined from as few sides as possible.
- Choose a common material grade that is easy to source.
From prototype to production with one shop
Keeping prototypes and production with the same machine shop means the programs, fixtures and lessons learned carry over. We machine single prototypes as well as production runs.
Chi Xin Technology is a CNC machine shop in Nantun District, Taichung, Taiwan, founded in 2022. We run 5+ CNC machines — 4.5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes — and mainly machine aluminum alloys and alloy steel, with a metal tolerance of 0.02 mm. We also offer wire EDM and surface finishing including anodizing, and we export to customers in Europe and North America.
